Cliff-top over Moonen Bay

Description

Neist Point is one of the most famous lighthouses in Scotland and can be found on the most westerly tip of Skye near the township of Glendale.

It is situated in the area known as ‘Durinish’. The start of the walk to the lighthouse is at the very end of the single track road near Glendale.

The lighthouse was designed by the architect David Alan Stevenson, built in 1900 and was first lit on 1 November 1909. An aerial cableway was used to take supplies to the lighthouse and cottages. However, since 1990, the lighthouse has been operated remotely from the Northern Lighthouse Board headquarters in Edinburgh. The light is 43 meters above sea level and can be seen up to 16 nautical miles offshore.
